HOCKENHEIM – Niels Langeveld capped off his debut season in the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland in spectacular fashion. After a particularly challenging race weekend at the Hockenheimring, the Dutch driver secured a sensational victory on Sunday, October 11. With a bold yet well-considered tire choice, Langeveld managed to surprise the entire field under treacherous conditions. It marked his first podium finish in the German Carrera Cup—and his very first victory. According to Langeveld himself, it was the biggest win of his career and perhaps one of his finest.
“we’d hoped to finish higher in the championship, but this victory makes up for a lot.”

The final race weekend of the season got off to anything but an easy start. During the extra test sessions on Thursday, Langeveld had to contend with highly variable conditions—ranging from a wet track in the morning to completely dry conditions later in the day. His pace was decent, and during Friday’s free practice, he finished thirteenth, just outside the top 10.
In qualifying, the weather took another turn. On a wet track, Langeveld was unable to get his Porsche 911 GT3 Cup into the right operating window. Fortunately, a spectacular 360-degree spin ended well, but he couldn’t get any higher than P18 and P15.
The first race on Saturday was also a struggle. After several incidents and fierce battles in the midfield, Langeveld decided not to take any more unnecessary risks. He ultimately finished in eighteenth place.
A bold tire choice proves to be a masterstroke
On Sunday, a good result once again seemed out of reach. The track was soaking wet, and virtually the entire field opted for rain tires. Langeveld, however, had studied the weather radar extensively and saw that it would remain dry throughout the race.
With two warm-up laps followed by thirty minutes of racing plus one lap, he was convinced of his choice: to start on slicks.
“My engineer thought I was crazy when I said I wanted to start on slicks. He asked me several times if I was really sure. But for me, there was no doubt. I had studied the weather radar extensively and knew that the track would continue to dry out as the race progressed. It wasn’t a gamble, but a well-considered decision based on my experience and intuition. In hindsight, it turned out to be an absolute masterstroke!”
What happened next was unprecedented. After the two warm-up laps, virtually the entire field ahead of Langeveld dove into the pit lane to switch to slicks after all. This created a bizarre situation in which the first six starting rows were completely empty. Langeveld and his teammate stayed on the track and suddenly found themselves in the lead.
From fifteenth place to a sensational victory
The race began under extremely difficult conditions. On the wettest sections of the track, the cars on rain tires initially had more grip, and Langeveld fell back to fifth place.
Two safety car periods then played perfectly into his hands. The track continued to dry out, and Langeveld had time to bring his slicks up to temperature.
The turning point came at the next restart. By then, the slicks were clearly faster than the rain tires, and Langeveld began an impressive comeback. Within two laps, he worked his way up to the lead, which he never relinquished.
“I just felt that this race was going to go my way. Once I saw how quickly the track was drying out, I knew we’d made the right decision. The sense of relief after the finish was immense. This is the biggest victory of my career and perhaps one of the very best!”
A Golden Finale to an Intense Season
With this victory, Langeveld wraps up his debut season in the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland in eleventh place in the championship. It was a season marked by two fourth-place finishes, several strong performances, but also its fair share of setbacks.
“It’s been an incredibly intense season in which we’ve learned a lot. We went head-to-head against one of the strongest fields in the world. Of course, we’d hoped to finish higher in the championship, but this victory makes up for a lot. To turn your first podium finish into a victory right away, during the very last race of the season, is truly fantastic.”
With 297 professional race starts under his belt, Langeveld is already looking ahead to the future.
“The 300 is getting closer and closer! We don’t know yet what next season will bring, but this victory gives me tremendous motivation to keep going.”
Finally, Langeveld thanks his main sponsor, 360 Talent, all other sponsors and partners, and the Laptime Performance team for their support throughout the season.
“Without them, this adventure wouldn’t have been possible. The fact that we can wrap up the season together like this makes this victory even more special.”
